A fine example of the ever popular Southerly 115 introduced in 1983, this being a 2001 built series 3 model. With a large centre cockpit and spacious accommodation below, we highly recommend a viewing.


The Southerly 115 embodies the established features of the Southerly range, which have proved popular over many years. The hull and rig set high standards of performance and versatility which appeals to family and cruising yachtsmen alike. 



Hull and superstructure are heavy duty GRP hand laid GRP mouldings, with clear gelcoat underwater, which is then antifouled. In the hull, woven roving and chopped strand mat are used in combination with thickness increasing progressively towards the keel area. There is a balsa core in the topsides which stops above the waterline. The deck is of sandwich construction using balsa core stiffening, with plywood in high stress areas where fittings are positioned. Bulkheads are glassed in the entire deck is bonded to the hull resulting in a strong and integral unit. A teak rubbing strake is fitted externally. Interior joinery is of Teak faced plywood with solid teak trims, build onto GRP base modules which are glassed into the hull.

The cast iron grounding plate is bolted into a recess in the hull, using stainless steel bolts. It acts as transverse stiffening in way of the keel slot and protects the hull when taking the ground. The aerofoil swing keel is cast iron with a stainless steel pivot fitting into a substantial boss at the forward end of the ground plate. The swing keel is raised by an electrically operated hydraulic ram, with manual backup, which is attached to the keel by a pulley system. It can be operated from either the cockpit or the chart area. A keel locking pin is provided.

Variable draft is achieved by raising and lowering the blade with an electrically driven pump, fitted with a manual back-up. All hydraulics are easily accessible for maintenance. The keel control is fitted at the helm pedestal with a gauge showing the keel position. A removable stainless steel pin enables the keel to be locked in the “up” position.
