This Southerly 38, built 2009, has been in the same ownership since new and has only been lightly used. Moulded with Ivory white hull and deck. Finished with American cherry interior this modern Steven Jones designed swing keel yacht offers very comfortable and spacious accommodation for two couples both with en suite toilets and showers. In addition there are two single berths in the main saloon. This yacht is fully equipped and has many extras to upgrade her from standard specification

MANUFACTURER PROVIDED DESCRIPTION

The Southerly 38 boasts an impressive sail plan for powerful windward performance. The Selden tall fractional rig with swept back double spreaders, combines a self tacking furling jib and large mainsail with single line reefing. For off wind sailing the gennaker can be flown from the removable bowsprit.

VARIABLE DRAFT KEEL

The fixed ballast is an iron casting which acts as a grounding plate and astransverse stiffening for the keel unit. It is fitted into a moulded recess in thehull in the area of the keel box with stainless steel fastenings. The aerofoil keel blade is cast iron and incorporates a stainless steel pivot at the leading edge.

Variable draft is achieved by raising and lowering the blade with an electrically driven pump, fitted with a manual back-up. All hydraulics are easily accessible for maintenance. The keel control is fitted at the helm pedestal with a gauge showing the keel position. A removable stainless steel pin enables the keel to be locked in the “up” position.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

  • She has been professionally maintained by Northshore Shipyard, including regular checks and maintenance of the Coppercoat antifoul system. Sterntube bearings have been replaced, with a new keel pennant and keel flaps having been fitted in 2015 and a Lewmar sternthruster retro-fitted in 2016.

  • Her light use is indicated by her odometer showing at total of 1481 Km (Approx. 920 Miles) in a combination of sailing and motoring. Her cruising area has been in the Solent, west as far as Weymouth, east as far as Chichester, and once round south of the Isle of Wight!

  • Her very good condition has been aided by having no pets, no smokers and no children

  • When first built the yacht was also fitted with additional tracks port and starboard for the Genoa and 2 additional winches port and starboard.
