Under sail the Vancouver 34 classic has a light helm and is perfectly balanced in any wind strength, making it easy work for the helmsman or self steering gear. She is surprisingly fast under sail and high average speeds are possible which is ideal for passage making.


The Vancouver 34 is every inch an offshore cruiser. The interior accommodation is designed for use at sea, for long periods if required, has good sea berths but still has a comfortably furnished saloon for relaxation when in harbour. The galley is compact and safe to use at sea and there is a large oilskin locker conveniently adjacent to the companionway. The huge chart table has plenty of space for the installation of any amount of instrumentation and there are purpose made stowages for pilot books and charts.

  • The hull and deck are hand laid up GRP in accordance with Nordseal system and finished in Dark Blue pigmented gel coat

  • The lead ballast keel is 6,000 lbs (2722 kgs) which is encapsulated entirely within the hull moulding


  • The maximum speed under power is in the order of 6 - 7 knots, depending on the conditions. With a cruising speed of 5 -6 Knots at moderate revs.

  • Fuel consumption at cruising speed is in the order of 2.25 - 2.5 litres per hour, which provides for roughly about 100 hours running on a full tank (220 litres), equating to a cruising range of approximately 500 miles.

  • Since installation the engine has been fully serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. The 300 hour service having been carried out in November 2015, when the boat was laid up for the winter.

  • In addition to the fixed diesel fuel tank, 4 x 10 litre plastic diesel fuel cans are carried in the cockpit locker.

A further 15 metres of 8mm (5/16") chain is also provided, in addition to 3 anchor warps of 30, 40 & 50 metres in length

  • Plastimo four man life raft stowed on deck in purpose made chocks. Since new (1998)this has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations at 3 yearly intervals.

  • Five Remploy (Commodore II) 150N life-jackets are provided, of the type that also act as a safety harness. These are inflated manually, by means of a pull-down toggle, and also have an oral inflation tube. Each is provided with a crotch strap, a whistle and a light, as well as with a safety line fitted with safety spring hooks at each end. 

  • A full set of in date distress flares in a waterproof container are stowed in the cockpit locker. Consisting of 4 x hand held reds, 4 x parachute rocket reds and 4 x buoyant orange smoke.

  • Horseshoe lifebuoy is supplemented by a floating flashing light, danbuoy and floating heaving line

  • Two good quality waterproof hand torches are provided for use on deck and are supplemented by a couple of smaller torches for use inside

  • A hand operated fog signal, together with spare gas canister is provided

  • A portable manually operated bilge pump is provided to supplement the two fixed pumps that are installed onboard.



  • 3 metre Zodiac inflatable dinghy with fitted rigid floor, stowed in a suitable canvas bag on deck. NB: this item has been extremely well used and has been repaired on several occasions

  • Yamaha 6CMH (6 h.p.) two stroke outboard engine is stowed on the pushpit for use with the above dinghy. This is complete with fuel tank and spare fuel can, together with all necessary fittings. The engine, which has run less than 100 hours in total, has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations since new and has recently (2013) been fitted with a new prop

  • Three stow-flat water hoses, of various lengths, on reels are provided

  • A Whitlock folding cockpit table is fitted to the steering binnacle

  • Timber storm boards, together with the necessary fixings, are provided to fit each of the various sizes of hatch and window

  • A remote fuel cut off device has been fitted to isolate the engine fuel supply, together with a port to allow a fire extinguisher to be discharged into the engine space without opening up the engine compartment



  • Esante is in reasonably good order given that she has been well used and extensively cruised, during which time I lived onboard for five consecutive seasons.

  • Secondly, as she is not to be replaced and hence no gear is to be transferred to another boat, she comes virtually fully equipped for immediate cruising.
