Since the original Southerly 115 Series I was introduced into the Southerly range in 1983, she has outrivalled many yacht of her size. Following on from the Series II and Series III, the Series IV has benefited from over 20 years of continuous development. Combined with the existing Rob Humphreys swing keel, the upgrade to twin rudder configuration and increased mainsail area provide outstanding sailing performance and improved handling.

The Southerly 115 series 4 has a very high ballast ratio which is where her stability comes. This makes her a proven safe family cruising yacht. One to look after you and give you years of sailing enjoyment.

The swing keel means amongst other benefits that she can play in shallow water, dry out on a beach and get to places that fin keel yacht will never even know about.

Designed by Dick Carter / Rob Humphreys

Heavy duty GRP moulding , hand laid up to Northshore’s Nordseal laminating system incorporating multi-axial and unidirectional reinforcements. Thickness increases progressively towards the keel area. The keel box is an integral part of the hull layup and sandwich construction stiffening runs the entire length of the hull topsides All main bulkheads are bonded into the hull at the layup stage.

Hull topside gelcoat colour: Southerly Blue (Resprayed 2020 with Hempel's Mega Aries Blue) Underwater gelcoat colour: Clear

Hand laid up GRP sandwich type construction using balsa core stiffening with plywood in high stress areas where fittings are positioned, heavily stressed area are additionally reinforced with unidirectional glass reinforcement. The hull is bonded to the deck through the entire length, and to all main bulkheads, resulting in a strong and integrated unit. A teak capping is fitted to the hull and deck joint upstand.

The fixed ballast is an iron casting which acts as a grounding plate and as transverse stiffening to the keel unit. It is fitted into a recess in the hull in the area of the keel box with stainless steel studs. The aerofoil swing keel is cast iron and incorporates a stainless steel pivot at the leading edge, The swing keel is raised and lowered by a hydraulic ram (Serviced and the piston rod replaced 2015) powered by an electrically driven pump with a hand operated back up. All hydraulics are easily accessible for maintenance. A keel control switch and gauge showing keel position are fitted at the wheel pedestal. Supplied with a removeable stainless steel pin to enable the keel to be locked in the “up” position.
