The benefits of owning this attractive yacht include having more interior space below decks than most yachts of this size and a truly amazing aft cabin. The finish below decks is excellent.

The cockpit is superbly designed, giving safe seating when sailing and is perfect for after sailing social and dining activities.

Her sailing performance is excellent and others of her class have cruised extensively and even won their class in the ARC Trans Atlantic event. She carries little or no weather helm when heeled and is very responsive. Her sail carrying ability is very good making her a safe yacht that be cruised seriously if required.

The Southerly 38 has a swing keel system and can be lifted at the touch of a button. You will be able to explore rivers and anchorages where a fin keel yacht dare not go. With the keel raised, she only needs 2' 8" of water to float and can dry out upright on her grounding plate. We would definitely recommend you inspect this yacht.

Heavy duty GRP Moulding, hand laid to Northshore Nordseal laminating system incorporating multi-axial and unidirectional reinforcements. Thickness increases progressively towards the keel area. The keel box is an integral part of the hull lay-up and sandwich construction stiffening runs the entire length of the hull topsides. All main bulkheads are bonded into the hull at the main layup stage along with a stiffening grillage of transverse frames and longitudinal stringers. The engine bearers are also on integral part of the hull structure. Teak rubbing strakes with stainless steel strips fitted port and starboard

The fixed ballast is an iron casting which acts as a grounding plate and as transverse stiffening for the keel unit. It is fitted into a recess in the hull in the area of the keel box with stainless steel bolts. The aerofoil swing keel is cast iron and incorporates a stainless steel pivot at the leading edge. The swing keel is raised and lowered by a hydraulic ram powered by an electrically driven pump with a manual back up. All hydraulics are easily accessible for maintenance. A keel control panel and gauge showing keel position is fitted at the wheel pedestal. A removeable stainless steel pin positioned to enable the keel to be locked in the “UP” position.
